Avi Wisnia
Avi Wisnia is an award-winning singer, songwriter, and storyteller based in Philadelphia. Having grown up surrounded by the traditional Jewish melodies of the synagogues where his father served as rabbi and his grandfather served as cantor, and raised on the folk and americana stylings found at jewish summer camps and youth retreat song sessions, Avi's musical influences combine his Jewish roots with west-coast jazz, contemporary piano-pop, and Brazilian bossa nova. Avi tours in support of his latest album, "Catching Leaves," performing in prestigious venues around the world – from the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC to The Kennedy Center in DC to concert tours in Japan, Poland, and Brazil.
In addition to being a performing songwriter, he has given a TED Talk, performed with The Moth storytellers, and hosts the monthly concert series Philly Songwriters In The Round. His most recent project, the EMMY-nominated PBS documentary "How Saba Kept Singing," explores the power of music and the legacy we pass down through the generations as Avi traveled and performed with his grandfather, renown cantor and Holocaust survivor David Wisnia.
“Avi Wisnia represents the best of the singer-songwriter genre: great voice, great songs, exciting stage presence. He plays piano like he was born to it.”
